So many W10 firsts occurred this month, can't wait for more. Saturday Social Our Saturday Social at The Muk is this (first) Saturday September 7th at 10am. Take a break from all those Saturday chores for some coffee, breakfast and aviation chatter. Private Pilot Ground School Ground school is off and running. We are in the 4th week already of this first session and learning away. If you missed this session, don't worry, another session is on the horizon so stay tuned for further information. In the meantime if you have any questions please contact Dave Bennett at [email protected] or Tara or Sky Rudolph at W10 via email at [email protected] or call us at 360-321-0510. Taxiway Talks The first of many Taxiway Talks occurred on August 18th with Peter Morton giving a fabulous presentation on the pilot shortage. There is some upcoming travel plans that have prevented us from setting the date for the next Taxiway Talk but stay tuned for that announcement. Collapsible Classroom If you haven't had a chance to see the newest W10 structure then be sure to take a peak at the new classroom next to the kiosk. This arrived folded up to about 30" wide, and folded out origami-style to a 16' width. It was fun to unfold a building. To our knowledge, this is the first of these buildings in WA. It has served us well in hosting ground school and the Young Eagles event so far and we plan on utilizing it for other airport meeting needs. Young Eagles Event It was a bit of short notice but with 2 volunteer pilots, Peter Morton and Dave Bennett, along with Tom Wayne holding down the fort (and paperwork), W10 hosted our first Young Eagles event that turned out fantastic. Many (17 I think) kids and parents alike were all smiles as they got to experience the joy of riding in a GA plane. Special thanks to Rick for letting the kids crawl around his kit plane, and to Scott for showing off the helicopter he had flown in for the weekend. We plan on hosting more of these events and would love to get even more pilots to volunteer at our next event. Camping The airport camp sites are seeing good use this summer, and we remind everyone that under-wing camping is available. We even had our first helicopter camper in this month. Not being 'helicopter people' is this considered under-rotor camping? W10 Feel Good Story In late July or early August we were contacted by a gentleman from New Zealand who was planning on being in the area at the end of August for a wedding. He had asked if anyone was willing to give him and his father a ride to see the area. They are both pilots in New Zealand and were looking forward to seeing the area from their most favorite perspective on their first visit to Whidbey Island. Many Thanks to Dave Bennett who volunteered to make this special request happen. Everyone had a great time. Sonex Gets Its Certificate! The DAR was out today to inspect and issue an airworthiness certificate for Rick's Sonex! Way to go! We look forward to seeing that zip around the airport (but will understand if the first flight ends up being out of Arlington). There is still good flying weather left in the summer. We hope you are all able to get out and enjoy it. Blue Skies! Sky and Tara Rudolph e-mail: [email protected]
