Welcome to the New Year, Friends and Family of W10! We hope you had a great time during the holidays and are now ready to launch into 2023 with determination and spirit. We are gearing up for a busy first quarter and have been recruiting more great folks to work for us (See the job listings in the classifieds below). We are truly grateful for all of the help and support we received at the end of last year as we faced an extremely challenging loss. We invite everyone to join us in helping make 2023 a year full of fond memories and friendship. (a Whidbey beach reminding us why we have made South Whidbey our home) Saturday Social @ W10 January's social will be this Saturday, January7th at 10 am at the Seabiscuit bakery. After the social we encourage folks to visit the Cultus Bay Glass Art Gallary and the Mukilteo Coffee Roaster's Mercantile shop. Instructors Corner What better way to bring in the New Year than another article written by our very own Dave Bennett, AGI. Thank you, Dave, for these wonderful contributions of knowledge that we can share with the community and either add to people's knowledge or refresh their memory of knowledge that has been stored away. We truly appreciate your willingness to share this knowledge and put it in format that's easy for everyone to understand. Dave's first article of 2023 is about Personal Minimums. Click HERE to read it!If you have questions related to aviation, or if you have any suggestions about other educational opportunities, you can reach Dave Bennett at [email protected]. Ground School @ W10 The holidays are over and Dave is doing the final preparations and turoring for the students from the fall class to take their written exam. Best of luck to everyone planning to take their written exam. Please contact Dave Bennett at [email protected] for further information if you would like to attend ground school! Proceeds go directly to Whidbey Airpark (W10) to help cover maintenance, improvements, future programs, and facilities. Scarlett and the South Whidbey Flying Club Scarlett is still holding strong to the record of the most operations at W10. Any break in the weather and Scarlett is up soaring through the skies enjoying the beautiful view from above. For those that do not know Scarlett she is a Cessna 150, named Scarlett, that will often be taking off with a future pilot in the left seat. Scarlett is a dream maker, career builder, and a source of pure joy for many people so W10 feels privileged to be called her home. Of course, what is Scarlett without Fred Lundahl, founder of the South Whidbey Flying Club. If you are interested in aviation and would like to know more about learning to fly or about the South Whidbey Flying Club, contact Fred Lundahl via [email protected]. Blast from the Past at W10 As I heard some unusual plane activity on the field I threw on a jacket and ran out to see what I was hearing. Down at the North end was a Kodiak that let out some passengers and then continued to take off and return and then taxi about halfway up the runway just to taxi back. With the help of our neighbor (and local W10 historian), Lee, it became apparent that they were doing a photo shoot. Lee then was able to share with me another photo shoot that happened many years ago. Does anyone recognize this photo???? (Photo courtesy of Lee Smith) W10 Projects How about those new bright orange windsocks!!!! Thank you, Eric Hansen, for getting those installed for us!
