Hello from W10 and Welcome to Summer!

Saturday Social
The next Saturday Social at The Muk is Saturday July 6th at 10am.  Nothing formal planned, but there will probably be some brainstorming about Dave's new upcoming ground school.  And if the weather is nice, and there is interest, maybe we will go for a flight afterwards?

Wings Credit
If you were present for the NAS Whidbey controller presentation in May, Carl Lee has done the legwork to get you FAA WINGS credit for that.  (And if you aren't familiar with the WINGS program, you can read up on it here: https://www.faasafety.gov/WINGS/pppinfo/default.aspx.  It may just get you out of you next flight review.)  If you want credit e-mail us your WINGS account email address (if you have one) or your name and zip code if you don't have an account already.

Private Pilot Ground School(!)
We are thrilled to announce that Dave Bennett recently received his Ground School Instructor certification (way to go Dave!!!), and is gearing up to start his first class.  He is thinking twice a week for two hours each for 10 weeks, which will provide 40 hours of instruction.  Maybe Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm - 8pm starting mid-July?  Nothing is set in stone just yet, and may depend on student interest/availability.  If you are interested, please e-mail us, and we can start to coordinate on the details.
Ground School Help Wanted: Dave is interested in bringing in some people with unique perspectives, backgrounds, and stories that may be relevant and interesting to budding pilots.  It can be specific instruction on a particular topic, or something of general interest outside the bounds of the normal coursework.  If you think you may have something to contribute, again, let us know and we can discuss the details.  Some of these discussions of more general interest may be done before/after the normal class time and open to the public as well.
This should be fun, and we are looking forward to supporting Dave on this, and greatly appreciate the time that he has already put in, and is committing for the class, to share his passion for aviation.  Thanks Dave!

W10 Garden Club
We were out for a couple weeks this month, so are going to try to sneak in a June work party still this coming Sunday, June 30.  I think that the focus of this months efforts will be on the cleanup of the east side in the area of the wind sock.  We had done some clearing of that area to get the wind sock out from the trees during our first work party (as I am sure many of you will recall), but there are some piles of logs and brush that were left behind that we haven't got around to dealing with.  With a little help, we can get that cleared out, and then can do a little grading to make that more usable, and ensure that there are no hazards there should anyone veer off into the grass in that area.  Bring some gloves, and eye protection, and meet us on the field at 10am.  We will lite up the fire pit (as long as recreational fires are still allowed this weekend - and the BBQ if they are not) and roast some hot dogs for lunch.

First Sonex Taxi Test!
Picture
It has been fun watching Rick build his Sonex in his hangar directly across from our office.  He has been reluctant to project any dates for completion, but we did look out recently to see some taxi tests.  Although we know that much work surely remains, it is looking great, and was exciting to see moving under its own power.  Way to go Rick!

We hope everyone is out enjoying the weather, and getting some flying in (the days will only be getting shorter from here).
Blue Skies!
